Dennis W. Prather | The founder and president of Phase Sensitive Innovations, a university-incubated startup, offers a personal recollection of how the company pivoted its business to succeed. | OPTICA
Phase Sensitive Innovations (PSI) began in 2007 like many other faculty-startups—as a small incubator leveraging funding opportunities from the federal government, to transition technology that had been developed in a university lab into a commercial operation. A five-person company at the start, PSI thus heavily leveraged the facilities and laboratories of the University of Delaware, USA. Initially, the technology objective—centered around a single funding opportunity—was to develop a new imaging modality based on a real-time millimeter-wave video-rate imager.
